The idea of having a quiz that will help you determine if you should relax your hair seems pretty helpful if you’re unsure if you should or shouldn’t. I assumed that this quiz on Total Beauty would be fair and unbiased. My hair is all natural but I was still very curious about the quiz and wanted to know what results it would give me. The first question was pretty basic, you know “what is your hair type?’. After that most of the other questions asked about the number of lipsticks I own, how often I change my hair styles, where I shop for clothes, what magazines I read (none which were marketed for African American women), and other random questions. Based upon my honest answers it said I was “100% Relaxer Ready”. It seems like this answer was pulled out of thin air. I don’t understand how they came to that conclusion. I’m not surprised at the comments below the quiz expressing how offended people are about the quiz.
I can’t put all the blame on Total Beauty because it was a “sponsored” post. Meaning when you see an article on TotalBeauty.com with the “Sponsored Content” banner, it means that this content was created by or on behalf of the named sponsor. This content is not subject to the Total Beauty Editorial Policy and while the information is reviewed for accuracy, it is not reviewed for objectivity or balance. The sponsor for the relaxer post is none other than Motions. It’s almost like saying our products aren’t made for natural hair. I always thought Motions offered hair care prodcuts for various hair types but I see now I was wrong. According to this quiz my option is to use their product to relax or don’t relax at all (without providing tips and product recommendations.
