Pat McGrath CoverGirl Queen Collection Lipstick review and swatches | Part 2

The wait is finally over!  As we previously discussed, CoverGirl teamed up with Pat McGrath…one of the most influential makeup artist in the world, and has completely redone all the lipsticks in the Queen Collection by added 24 new colors.

Overall the consistencies of all the lipsticks are the same across the board- silky and light.  As with many drugstore brand lipsticks, expect them to last 2 to 3 hours.  If you use lip liner you can get a good solid 3 hours out of them.  I was taken aback by the scent of these lippies.  But in all fairness its classic CoverGirl fragrance and a lot of readers mentioned that they love it.  I thought it was because I had 4 tubes open at a time.  You don’t really smell it while it’s on your lips- but when you open the tube you’ll notice the sweet & spicy waxy smell.

The packaging is cleaner and sleeker than I thought from the promotional photos.  Any lipstick that has a color indicator gets two thumbs up in my book (unless the color indicator is totally off which is rare).  It didn’t happen with Part 1 of this collection but with this set I noticed 2 of the color indicators were off compared to the actual color of the lipstick.  The color indicator for “Rush” appears to be a mid-tone brown with pink tones– the actual color is a warm medium brown.  Now for the color indicator for “Fine Wine” is off but not as off as “Rush”– it appears to be a deep purple with illumination or shimmer to it.  In fact, it has a creme finish.  As we all know you can’t test most drug store brands so color indicators and see-thru screens are important.

Burgundelicious – A gorgeous velvety burgundy with burgundy shimmer.  Yayyy! Finally a nice wearable burgundy with some POW to it!  I can’t wait to throw a gloss over this color to really make it pop.

Fine Wine – A classic everyday deep purple/ wine.  This is a little too dark for me but I can work with it and use it for those pinks I have that aren’t really appropriate for this season.

Rush – A pretty warm (red/ dark orange) brown.  I didn’t think I’d be able to wear this color but it’s pretty and nice for fall.  Not sure why but this color isn’t listed on the new releases but it’s a new color.  They may have changed the name and this is the updated name.  I’ll update this post when I get word back on this one.

See Red – A warm (orange) vibrant red.  If you own a mid-tone or dark red or even a burgundy lip liner you can work the heck out of this color if you feel that it’s too bright.  I actually love this color.  I’m usually afraid of warm reds and I am inching my way into orange lip color for spring 2011 so this is a great start in that direction.
