Immerse yourself in movie and fashion magic at the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show Los Angeles, held June 25-26 at the Pasadena Convention Center.
Professional make-up artists working in the beauty, motion-picture, TV and theater industries will teach top techniques at IMATS. These include Oscar-winning movie make-up artist Christien Tinsley (True Grit, No Country for Old Men), celebrity artist Valenté Frazier (Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum), movie make-up effects veteran Steve Johnson (Ghostbusters, Species), Make Up For Ever founder Dany Sanz, M.A.C. senior artists Romero Jennings and Tiffany Johnston, award-winning New Zealand-based body-painter Yolanda Bartram and YouTube sensation Kandee Johnson.
In an exciting development, Johnson, Bartram and cosmetics company founder Napoleon Perdis will be offering intimate, hands-on master classes at the show.
And for the first time at IMATS L.A., Make-Up Artist will offer an exclusive pro-only show time 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 24 at the convention center. It will open with a reception for “The Greatest Make-up Artists of Our Time: A Selection of Portraits by Deverill Weekes.” This photo gallery features portraits that Weekes, Make-Up Artist magazine’s staff photographer, shot between 1994 and 2011. The reception is sponsored by M.A.C. Pro and hosted by IMATS Show Director Michael Key and actress Juliet Landau. Other IMATS perks for pros include preferred classroom seating and a pro-only lounge, both happening all weekend.
Two new panel discussions at IMATS will offer behind-the-scenes looks at some of TV’s hottest shows: Meet the finalists who competed in the hit make-up effects reality series Face Off and the artists who bring you the gore on True Blood.
Throughout the weekend, make-up companies will unveil new products and tools and offer discounts on must-haves. This year’s show features several new make-up companies—including Anastasia Beverly Hills, Inglot, BodyFX and Napoleon Perdis—as well as IMATS L.A. regulars including Make Up For Ever, M.A.C., Nyx and Züca.
The Make-up Museum will showcase make-up effects, sculptures and animatronics from some of the world’s best-known films. The student competition, in which make-up students race to create winning looks, has a tribal theme for the beauty category; the character category is themed mythological creatures.
Make-Up Artist magazine has been producing IMATS L.A. since 1997. The magazine also produces IMATS in London; New York; Vancouver, B.C.; Sydney and Toronto. This year’s IMATS L.A. sponsors include Make Up For Ever, Napoleon Perdis, Premiere Products Inc., Royal & Langnickel Brush and StyleHaul.
