OPI celebrates color with the Holland Collection for Spring/Summer 2012. Inspired by the country’s range of stunning shades – as seen in vivid tulips, windmill-dotted hillsides and bustling canals – the collection’s twelve shades offer a mixture of sophisticated neutrals and highly-pigmented brights.

“Holland has a very unique, vibrant beauty to match its open-minded nature,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.  “Spring is the season of color, and the Holland Collection provides an array of pink, coral and orange hues that capture this energy. The bright lacquers are married with neutrals in new variations like red clay and sea green.”

A sequence of electric brights, including a sun-lit orange (A Roll in The Hague), a hot coral-red (Red Lights Ahead…Where?) and two perfectly pretty pinks (Kiss Me on My Tulips and a light-catching Pedal Faster Suzi!) complement their cooler counterparts in hues of glistening purple (Dutch Ya Just Love OPI? and Vampsterdam), while elegant neutrals (Gouda Gouda Two Shoes, Did You ear About Van Gogh? and Wooden Shoe Like to Know?) meet two shimmer-laced blues (I Have a Herring Problem and I Don’t Give a Rotterdam!) and a creamy sea green (Thanks a WindMillion).

“Wearing these colors on fingers and toes will accessorize the season’s hottest trends,” remarks Suzi. “The varied palette of colors accentuates the looks that walked the runway, from colored pants and ladylike frocks to long, blousy-sleeved tops and dramatic patterns.”

Holland by OPI includes the following shades:

OPI A Roll in the Hague

Essie "Bobbing for Baubles"

Essie "Bobbing for Baubles"

It looks really deep in the shade

Essie is at it again with these crazy polish names.  I love how they slide them in as though they’re chic and cool, not knowing you just told your friend that you’re ‘bobbing for glass’.  Yes beauties glass; as in round glass, plastic, ceramic, or wood Christmas tree ornaments.  Who knew they had a name other than Christmas ornaments?  More importantly who would want to bob for one? It’s not like it’s an apple.

Nonetheless, this dusty deep blue is gorgeous.  In most lighting it does come off a little too dark and almost black but it really does look nice and dusty blue at other times.  I know I’ve said this before but Essie has really improved on their formula because this could have easily been a 1-coater as pigmented as it was, but I opted for 2 thin coats for better coverage.  This is one of those dark blues that looks good on all skintones.  Just look pass the crazy name.

Jill Scott is an undeniable pro with the pen and has the voice to match.  She’s always been a beautiful woman and encouraged women to be comfortable in their bodies but I’m starting to see a new found level a confidence in her.  She sets the standard when it comes to be sexy and alluring without being trashy and naked.

Don’t want this thing, but can’t let go
Even though, I need it so
Your arms they soothe me, but I ain’t no game
I ain’t no toy, I ain’t just brain, this ain’t no movie mane
I’m a real woman, been down this road before
(I just need more) I just need more…

Her coral nail color could be gel, but I'd go for OPI "Big Hair Big Nails" from the Texas Collection

I love the simple wing, swash of gold, and lashes for the eyes. Her blush may be just a touch of bronzer, I'd go with CoverGirl Queen Bronzer and Sephora's Lip Attitude in Mauve Emotion for the lips.

The eye is a little bolder here and minus the gold. Her matte red lips paired with the tiger print is such a classic look.

The exaggerated wing (try tracing the shape with an eyeliner and filling it in with MAC Carbon or the black eyeshadow of your choice), highlight under eyes and contour to add depth to the look. For the tips try a sheer slightly frosty pink.

One of the girls at Sephora in Cerritos had the sickest Day of the Dead makeup look I’ve ever seen!  One half of face was the traditional black & white hued and the other half was more glamorous and jewel toned.  It’s moments like this I’m always happy I have my camera in my bag.

Check out Elizabeth’s makeup portfolio here, she’s really talented.  Happy to see this level of creativity Sephora is blessing us with.  Not many retail stores do that these days

Mid-tone purple eye shadow all over the eye lid with a deep green winged eye, golden coral for the lips.

Don't forget the orange nail polish to compelte the look ;-)

Try tracing the shape of the exaggerated wing on your eyes then fill it in with a mid-tone brown eyeshadow and black on the corners. To add a pop of color add gold shimmer eyeshadow in the center. On the lower lash line add fuchsia eyeshadow from the inner corner to ¾ of the eye blending black eyeshadow and liner should connect the ¼ area left, creating an exaggerated wing. Can't forget about those lip! I'd use OCC Lip Tar in "Anime" with NYX Hot Pink glitter on top.

Loving the gold and green eye shadow and hot pink lip here, but what really caught my attention were those nails! Zebra print, neon pink & lime green, round tips...I LIVE!

The makeup was a lot more detailed than what shown in this snapshot. A lot of contouring on the face and eyes, white eyeliner, and a semi-matte red lip.

The only hunter green eyeshadow I found close enough to this color is in one of my no-name eyeshadow palettes, but Wet & Wild makes a hunter green eyeliner, so you can still pull off this look. OCC has a couple loose pigments that come close but they’re not the right shade and have shimmer. If you gals find an eyeshadow this color let me know! The purple on the lower lash and golden coral lip color looks to be the same shade as in the other scenes. Kelly is oozing sexy with her hot fuchsia lippie and frosty gold 'shadow too...I see you Kelly.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15

Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 blends reparative oils and waxes with real sugar, a natural humectant, for delectable and dependable moisture. Sweet and tart black currant oil, rich in plumping essential fatty acids, cushions the lips while antioxidant grapeseed polyphenols and vitamins A, C, and E provide protection from wrinkle-causing free radicals. It also provides essential, year-round protection from damaging UV rays.

As wonderful as the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment with SPF 15 sounds, it fell short in most areas.  With the first hour of using it I wasn’t able to make it through my morning cup of coffee without having to reapply it twice.  It didn’t fully pick up until after the third application (about 2 hours into the day) and that’s when I noticed that it was able to keep my lips hydrated without the need to keep applying it for another 2 hours.  I’ve been keeping a really good eye on keeping up with my water in-take so I’m not sure why it took so long to see results.  I like the natural semi-matte finish and the fresh citrus scent left little to be desired; for the first 5 minutes it annoyed me but it faded completely away.  I can appreciate the inclusion of SPF 15 but with other brands such as Jack Black I can get SPF 25 in a lip balm (nix the gorgeous packaging) and spend less than half the price of this one.  Unlike Jack Black it is available in 4 shades besides clear, but Jack Black was designed for hot sexy guys so don’t expect to see an array of shades anytime soon.  I love the other benefits of this lip balm but I need to feel the benefits before I see them in order to get me to the store and pay $22.50 for it.

Just when I think L’Oréal can’t out due themselves when it comes to creating only most bad %$& drugstore mascara ever, they do it again!  My top 5 drugstore mascaras are all created by the L’Oréal brand.  The new kid on the block to join the Voluminous series is L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lash Mascara.

Can we talk about the brush for a minute? If you remember my last mascara post I mentioned how the new cone-shape mascara brushes are good but they’re not curved and still make the application difficult.  Well my prayers have been answered; finally a long, cone-shaped, curved, slender mascara brush. And if you’re curious, yes it is a silicone material and not bristles, which I prefer because it gives the lashes a cleaner look.  If it sounds a little wild that’s because it is.  It does take some getting use to because you have to make sure you’re holding it at the right angle but it’s so worth it.

The formula is perfect for those looking for volume and builds nicely without flaking.  If asked if I got the false lash look, I’d have to say yes…especially when using a lash curler (not used in the pictures for this review) and I only needed 2 coats, after the 3rd coat I lost volume.  My lashes are so strange, they grow in a criss-cross pattern so I’m prone to clumping and the lashes start to gather.  I went with black instead of blackest black, since I’ve always had an issue with the formulas of blackest black from all brands.  I always find them to be very drying and irritate my eyes.  It could be that I have some type of sensitivity to the added color, but black was extremely dark so I doubt if I’d ever need to go darker with this mascara.

The only gripe I can think of for this mascara is the shiny gold fingerprint prone tube.  I have a couple of issues with this.  If you’re out shopping for it (like I did) it isn’t the easiest to find since L’Oréal already has a mascara with the same color tube.  You also have to be sure you close it until you hear it click into place, but the design of the tube is really sleek and modern.  I also wish that the texture was different just to be different.  Nonetheless, I’m hooked on False Fiber Lash!  A

BTW:  Gwen Stefani is stunning in the new promo commercials, but it’s not like she can ever look bad.

OPI announces the launch of six new limited edition shades inspired by hip hop sensation Nicki Minaj, including a purple Shatter!  Inspired by Minaj’s unique style, love of bright colors, and her debut album Pink Friday, the Nicki Minaj by OPI promotion will feature an array of bold hues, from neon lime green to pink.

OPI is so excited to work with Nicki in releasing these six new nail lacquers,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.  “Nicki has taken the hip hop world by storm, but her music is only part of the equation. She’s also become a fashion inspiration, noted for her daring costumes and hair color both on and off the stage.”

Nicki’s eclectic look made including a new hue in OPI’s bestselling Shatter coat a must for this collaboration. The purple Super Bass Shatter (a record-setting purple that “shatters” before your eyes) is inspired by graffiti art and works when painted over any dry OPI hue. Adding top coat takes Super Bass Shatter from matte to glossy in seconds.

The line features five nail lacquers in addition to Super Bass Shatter, ranging from fantastic pink, rainbow confetti glitter and charcoal sparkle hues to two green shades in lime and teal:

“Did It On ‘Em” A lusty little lacquer that loves the “lime”-light.

"Pink Friday" Kick off the weekend with this pop! of bubblegum pink.

"Metallic 4 Life" This charcoal sparkle flies with the stars in the skies.

"Save Me" I drove for miles just to find this silver-rainbow glitter.

"Fly" I came to win, to fight…and to wear this aqua.

"Did It On ‘Em" A lusty little lacquer that loves the “lime”-light.

Nicki Minaj by OPI nail lacquers contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide Brush for the ultimate in application. This limited edition promotion will be available beginning January 2012 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for  $8.50 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each nail lacquer.
