This is what happens when you want to wear dark nail colors but NEED that pop of neon; you get random nail colors like L’Oréal “After Hours” (navy blue with a touch of indigo), L.A. Girl (now Love & Beauty at Forever 21) “Flushed” (bright peach), neon purple and green Color Club stripers, and China Glaze “Marry A Millionaire” (purple and neon green holographic bar glitter).  Simple. Random. With no ***s given.

I really need to practice applying my polish thick on my left middle finger lol. My bed is so wavy but I’ll take the waves over ridges any day *knocks on wood, that I don’t get ridges next*.

Professional Cuticle Softener, Acetone, and Pineapple Cuticle Oil - excuse my messy product drawer lol

Jade Nail Lacquer in "Provocative"

Jade Nail Lacquer in "Provocative"

Every now and then you have to go back to products you know and trust and just take a breather from trying and testing.

I went back to regular ol’ nail shop products for at-home manicures.  Nothing fancy, high-priced, and no-fuss; just pure acetone ($3), cuticle softener ($3), and that infamous pineapple cuticle oil ($3) which I’ve always loved.  The acetone probably won’t last longer than a month but I’ll be using this cuticle softener and oil for 3-6 months.  I even used Jade “Provocative” nail lacquer, which is one of the few $1 nail polish brands I love.  A small investment for some simple pleasantries, I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t live near Skylark Nail Supply.  But I’m sure a lot of ladies live near nail supply wholesale stores and just don’t know it.  Start doing some research and get to shopping girls!

OPI Green Shatter (applied thin, really thick, and thick)

I’m not the biggest Spider-Man fan but this collection is cute and fun!  My step-boys just might take notice in what I do since OPI has combined 2 ultimate passions; comic books and nail polish.  I could have done without “Your Web or Mine” being included in this collection because it’s so frosty, but I have to remind myself that there are women out there that love frost shades and will still go crazy for this color…none of the polish lovers I know personally, but someone out there.  “My Boyfriend Scales Walls” is nice summer white, without being too white.  “Just Spotted the Lizard” will most likely be a top seller and go fast.  I didn’t have any issues with the formula of this collection, which was surprising because this collection has so many different finishes.

Note:  My camera is being stupid BUT the polish colors are accurate.  Sigh.

Your Web of Mine? – frosty medium, like straight from the 80’s.  But what’s old is new again, so if vintage frames can make a strong comeback I’m sure frosty pink can too.

Into the Night – shimmer (slightly frost) midnight blue with indigo tones.  This one took 3 coats for complete coverage.

Call Me Gwen-ever – crème coral orange.  Pretty orange, it’s bright but not glaring that looks good across the board.

Just Spotted the Lizard – duo-chrome (more like a triple-chrome) metallic golden yellow, olive green, and slate blue.  It was only a matter of time before we started seeing more dupes of Chanel Péridot.

My Boyfriend Scales Walls – crème white with blue-gray tones.  I can list this one in the “Twist on White” series.  I love this color and got a lot of compliments and curious questions about the color (most people can really see the gray) but the formula wasn’t stellar and a little too thin.  I’m sure it’s due this being a new bottle; by my next application it’ll be perfect.

Number One Nemesis – super shimmery gray-green jelly base with gold, green, and gray micro shimmer.  I love this color! I thought it was black with gold shimmer (which would have been a dozy because we’ve seen it before) but it was a pleasant surprise to see something different.

Green Shatter – dark gray base packed with green micro glitter that gives a shatter effect when applied in 1 single stroke (not layered) over semi wet nail polish.

OPI Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection

OPI Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection

As a Disney fanatic, I really wanted OPI to show out when it came to this collection.  I’m they are thee one and only OPI.  I think OPI really dropped the ball on this one.  I’m not sure if they spent the day at Disneyland before putting this collection together.  If you’ve ever been to Disneyland (which everyone should do once in their lifetime) then you know how visual this collection should have been.  Vintage Minnie Mouse should have been one of their biggest most notable collections and it just didn’t do it for me.

Vintage Minnie wasn’t all about the pinks and berries.  She was filled with colors like yellow, red, blue, brown, and tans.  I don’t think they should have gone with the obvious colors but something different would have been very memorable.  Maybe mouse head glitter or shrink-wrapped caps?

Happy to report, the formulas were great as to be expected with OPI.  They were smooth like butter and only needed 2 coats.

OPI The Color of Minnie

Nothin’ Mousie ‘Bout It – sheer pink base with pink, purple, and yellow micro glitter with chunky soft pink heart-shaped glitter.  I really like the glitter in this one but the heats I could have done without.

If You Moust You Moust – candy pink cream.  The pink is perfect.  It’s cute and girlie without being too pink where older beauties may be turned off by it.

I’m All Ears – raspberry pink jelly with pink and purple shimmer.  OPI comes out with a color like this at least twice a year.  We get it.

The Color of Minnie – red pink with whisper shimmer.  It’s almost like a frost without being a frost.  Pretty but I not my style personally.

As much as I love the concept of OCC’s garden theme for their spring/ summer collection, the collection of nail lacquers seemed to be all over the place and lacked cohesion.  Maybe it’s one of those things that only the cool girls understand and it’s going over my head.  I just don’t think ‘spring garden…Greek mythology’.  Good news is that the formulas were really good and consistent and I only used 2 coats for each shade.  Not sure if you beauties will be head over heels in love with these but had they tossed in a matching nail color for BellaDonna Lip Tar I would have been all over it like it was the last bottle of polish on earth.

Also notes that this is the launch of the newly shaped rectangular bottle which is reminiscent of the first version American Apparel bottles.  The wands are flat and the brushes are average length and slight widen, which is a great improvement and really helps with the application.  But due to the length of the bottle you have to take your time dragging off the polish off the wand.  That’s no biggie though.

Phantasim – dusty gray-blue with a metallic finish

Chimera – dusty sea green with a metallic finish

Chlorophyll – slightly muted teal green cream that’s kind of jellish, hard to explain just it’s not completely stark in color.

Copperhead – small rose gold square glitter in a clear base.  I know it could be a debate over if this is rose gold or copper, but coming from a girl that just got rid of her 2” round bamboo rose gold earrings, this color is too light for me to call copper.  This one could be used more as a topcoat since it’s isn’t packed enough with glitter for complete coverage.

Arsenic – small silver glitter in a clear base.  This one is packed!  I used two coats and it looks great.

Kava Kava – neutral beige with pearl white whisper shimmer.  Even though this isn’t my type of color, I must admit it looks gorgeous and this was one of the best formulas that’s came my way in over 2 years.  The only other brand to be given such a title was Lippmann.

These babies are truly something special.  Glitter polish has been making a huge comeback but so many of them are repeats of the typical clear base, sparkly glitter.  China Glaze Prismatic Chroma’s look very dimensional in person and almost give a 3-D effect.  I love the look of these glitters but would have loved to see these done with neon colors for summer, or even black or white.  With keeping in mind that this is a spring collection, I will give the simple colors pass.

Since the glitter varies in size and it’s packed with shimmer and micro shimmer, the application was perfect.  You can get away with 2 coats for complete coverage but they pop even more with 3 coats.  Though the holographic effect is not as pronounced as it should have been (given the name of this collection), I still think these glitters are amazing.

Full Spectrum -  dusty gray/ fuchsia iridescent pink base with pink holo glitter and green, orange, blue, and pink hexagon glitter.  I was so excited about this one but it has more purple tones than I thought it would.  Visually, I thought it would be more baby pink.

Prism – dirty deepened lavender iridescent base with multi-toned lavender holo glitter and green, orange, blue, and pink hexagon glitter.  This color is so gorgeous!  I can’t wait to wear it with dark colors and just play up the accents glitter colors.  I was concerned that the depth of this color wouldn’t translate well during the application, but it did.  I only used 2 coats.

Liquid Crystal – blue shimmer and purple iridescent base with blue holo glitter and green, orange, blue, and pink hexagon glitter.  Ehhhh.  This color just didn’t do it for me.  Oddly enough I’m using it as an accent color for my mani this week.   But I would say this is a must-have color.

Optical Illusion – green shimmer base with emerald green, teal, and aqua blue glitter, along with green, orange, blue, and pink hexagon glitter.  If you don’t get a single color from this collection your NEED this one! While I was watching The Hunger Games last night, there was a scene early in the movie where Katniss is stuck in a tree strapped down preparing for a catnap.  The tree had the prettiest shades of iridescent green.  I kept thinking ‘why wasn’t this in the polish collection’?

Ray-Diant – golden shimmer with hints of green, with tarnished gold glitter with green, orange, blue, and pink hexagon glitter.  Something very regal about this one, it doesn’t have the usual yellow gold glitter.

Polarized – silver shimmer base with silver hex glitter, with green, orange, blue, and pink hexagon glitter.  I wasn’t in love with this one.  I have seen China Glaze do something similar with their 3-D collection.  It also reminds me of those New Year’s Eve plastic hats people used to wear in the late 80’s.

This color combo look gray and pink but Essie “Who is the Boss” is a dusty blue with green tones.  I forgot to take a picture of the color alone so I’ll swatch it later.  It’s a gorgeous color and the application was great so I have to give props when due.

Nicole by OPI Wel-Kim To My World

Nicole by OPI Wel-Kim To My World

First things first.  These polish names are so corny.  I understand the collection was inspired by Kim Kardashian (spoken in my ultra dramatic voice, hair blowing in the wind) but people actually had several meetings with Suzi Weiss-Fischmann present, and said ‘now the fans will love these names, they’re catchy and simply wonderful’.

Did anyone raise their hand during the meeting to object?

Now that that’s out…on to the good stuff, and this collection is spewing with goodness.  It has Kimmy’s name written all over it.

I swear, when Nicole by OPI changed to a short pro-wide brush and really just stepped up their game, I became one of their number 1 fans.  I love this collection for a couple simple reasons; it’s simple and classic but also flirty.  If you’re new to embracing your inner polish snob or just want something fresh, this is the collection for you.  The only color it’s missing is mint green, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen Kim Kardashian wear…I can’t even see her wearing mint green.

The application and formula was perfect and I can’t think of anything to complain about.  My favorite of the bunch would have to be Lights, Kim-era, Action!  Soooo pretty….my camera didn’t do it any justice.
