So is this like a pigmented acne spot gel?
No, it does not contain any acne fighting ingredients to ward off evil pimples such as salycic acid or benzoyl peroxide.
Where should I apply it?
I’m going to leave this one up to you. But in my personal opinion I would have to apply it over small blemishes and imperfections and not as you would full face makeup. The first time I saw one of my Asian friends using a beauty balm, she applied it just as I mentioned above and looked amazing. Not only that but have you seen what small amount of product you get in these tubes?
What should I apply it with?
A small concealer brush works just fine, but I like to apply mine with clean dry hands and tab it in my skin.
Is it thick like a balm?
Not Maybelline Dream Fresh BB. It’s actually a hydrating gel formula and not a (emollient) balm at all.
The shade lineups seem so limited; I was told that companies don’t make beauty balms for women of color because it’s not for us. Is that true?
Of course that’s not true. I think companies in general don’t make enough deep shades, but when it comes to beauty balms in particular it originated in Asia so it may not be a huge market for us deep-toned honeys.
I wear NC45 MAC and I wear Deep Sheer Tint BB, it runs a little warm but it works when I set it with my C8 Studio Fix (powder). Even in the photos you can see that it works.
Do you have to set it with powder like with traditional foundation?
I don’t. It’s so sheer you really don’t have to but it you want a more polished look….go for it!
How’s the performance?
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB last the entire day on me if I’m not being too active (I have a sit-down desk job but I have my days).
This is actually the only “unnatrual” product I use on my face….I apply it all over and it does mask some of the hyper-pigmentation. I really like and like that it has sunscreen build in.

Great review! I love the product despite the same problem as you with it being too red toned for my skin. Thanks for also clearing up that bb creams aren’t meant for dark skin. I read that somewhere too. It’s a shame what people will make up these days!
I hope they release a new shade that’s not so red
