OPI Green Shatter (applied thin, really thick, and thick)

I’m not the biggest Spider-Man fan but this collection is cute and fun!  My step-boys just might take notice in what I do since OPI has combined 2 ultimate passions; comic books and nail polish.  I could have done without “Your Web or Mine” being included in this collection because it’s so frosty, but I have to remind myself that there are women out there that love frost shades and will still go crazy for this color…none of the polish lovers I know personally, but someone out there.  “My Boyfriend Scales Walls” is nice summer white, without being too white.  “Just Spotted the Lizard” will most likely be a top seller and go fast.  I didn’t have any issues with the formula of this collection, which was surprising because this collection has so many different finishes.

Note:  My camera is being stupid BUT the polish colors are accurate.  Sigh.

Your Web of Mine? – frosty medium, like straight from the 80’s.  But what’s old is new again, so if vintage frames can make a strong comeback I’m sure frosty pink can too.

Into the Night – shimmer (slightly frost) midnight blue with indigo tones.  This one took 3 coats for complete coverage.

Call Me Gwen-ever – crème coral orange.  Pretty orange, it’s bright but not glaring that looks good across the board.

Just Spotted the Lizard – duo-chrome (more like a triple-chrome) metallic golden yellow, olive green, and slate blue.  It was only a matter of time before we started seeing more dupes of Chanel Péridot.

My Boyfriend Scales Walls – crème white with blue-gray tones.  I can list this one in the “Twist on White” series.  I love this color and got a lot of compliments and curious questions about the color (most people can really see the gray) but the formula wasn’t stellar and a little too thin.  I’m sure it’s due this being a new bottle; by my next application it’ll be perfect.

Number One Nemesis – super shimmery gray-green jelly base with gold, green, and gray micro shimmer.  I love this color! I thought it was black with gold shimmer (which would have been a dozy because we’ve seen it before) but it was a pleasant surprise to see something different.

Green Shatter – dark gray base packed with green micro glitter that gives a shatter effect when applied in 1 single stroke (not layered) over semi wet nail polish.

OPI Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection

OPI Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection

As a Disney fanatic, I really wanted OPI to show out when it came to this collection.  I’m they are thee one and only OPI.  I think OPI really dropped the ball on this one.  I’m not sure if they spent the day at Disneyland before putting this collection together.  If you’ve ever been to Disneyland (which everyone should do once in their lifetime) then you know how visual this collection should have been.  Vintage Minnie Mouse should have been one of their biggest most notable collections and it just didn’t do it for me.

Vintage Minnie wasn’t all about the pinks and berries.  She was filled with colors like yellow, red, blue, brown, and tans.  I don’t think they should have gone with the obvious colors but something different would have been very memorable.  Maybe mouse head glitter or shrink-wrapped caps?

Happy to report, the formulas were great as to be expected with OPI.  They were smooth like butter and only needed 2 coats.

Nothin’ Mousie ‘Bout It – sheer pink base with pink, purple, and yellow micro glitter with chunky soft pink heart-shaped glitter.  I really like the glitter in this one but the heats I could have done without.

If You Moust You Moust – candy pink cream.  The pink is perfect.  It’s cute and girlie without being too pink where older beauties may be turned off by it.

I’m All Ears – raspberry pink jelly with pink and purple shimmer.  OPI comes out with a color like this at least twice a year.  We get it.

The Color of Minnie – red pink with whisper shimmer.  It’s almost like a frost without being a frost.  Pretty but I not my style personally.

OPI announces the launch of six limited edition nail lacquers and a new Shatter, inspired by Sony Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-Man.  With an all-star cast including Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, this highly-anticipated series reboot opens in theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012.

OPI is so excited to work with Sony Pictures in welcoming Spider-Man back on the big screen,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.  “This film explores a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy that’s going to be both dark and sexy. The colors created for this promotion capture the movie’s exciting atmosphere, with standout shades like the deep shimmering blue Into the Night and the metallic golden green Just Spotted the Lizard.”

The film villain’s reptilian look can be replicated with a high-fashion twist by using the new deep green shimmer Shatter coat.  Shatter the Scales is inspired by graffiti art and works when painted over any dry OPI hue. Adding top coat takes Shatter the Scales from matte to glossy in seconds.

The line features six nail lacquers in addition to Shatter the Scales, ranging from white, coral and pink to mood-setting hues of blue, nickel and yellow-green:

I literally had a drool fest when I saw these babies at a beauty supply store at the Beverly Center a few weeks ago.  As much as I love bright nail colors, sometimes I just tired of them and want to wear something sweet and conservative.  New York City ballet by OPI is a Spring 2012 collection with 5 limited edition SoftShades and 1 glitter.

The collection goes great with the overall theme and the colors are indeed sheer and soft, with a dainty feel and quality.  I did experience a little bit of unevenness, which is to be expected with sheer shades.  Because they only have a hint of color, they’re universally flattering on everyone.

These look a lot better in the bottles than they do on.  Even after 3 coats it’s still kind of difficult to tell them apart from one another.  I would have loved to see more color, perhaps with the color depth in between a sheer and a jelly.  The biggest surprise was Pirouette My Whistle.  This is more than just a silver glitter; it’s a brushed silver with very little shine that has a very conservative adult feel about it.  I’m really not sure why they included Don’t Touch My Tutu when Funny Bunny is the same and can still be easily found.  I don’t suspect anyone will point out the fact that I’m wearing one and not the other.

I did 2 swatches for all of these but you’ll want to opt for 3 or an ultra white base.

Rating:  B-, the streakiness and lack of color posed an issue.  I’m okay with sheer but I want people to see a little color of variance.

OPI announces the launch of six new additions to the SoftShades collection, inspired by the New York City Ballet (NYCB), one of the world’s premiere dance companies.  New York City Ballet by OPI features five sheer shades lightly tinged in hues of beige, pink, white, lilac and gray, as well as a silver sparkly lacquer. With various sized glitter particles, this hue can be worn alone or layered over any of the other colors for added shine and dimension.

OPI is so excited to work with the New York City Ballet,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.  “NYCB is rich with artistic history and has a renowned reputation that brings people from around the world to see NYCB performances. The dancers, choreography and costumes provided a wealth of inspiration for a range of soft, feminine hues. The beige, pink, and white lacquers bring to mind classic ballet slippers, tutus and leotards, while the sheer lilac and gray add muted color to ballet’s traditional pink.”

“One of our goals at NYCB is to make ballet accessible to the widest possible public,” remarks Katherine E. Brown, NYCB Executive Director. “We are thrilled to be partnering with OPI on this exciting new endeavor, sharing the beauty and elegance of NYCB with a new audience.”

The six lacquers in New York City Ballet by OPI include:

OPI was used on nails for the Jason Wu and Rebecca Taylor fall/winter shows at St. John’s Center Studios and Lincoln Center! For Jason Wu, models’ nails were painted with taupe hue, San Tan-tonio. The noticeable neutral complimented clothes in taupe, black and gold with pops of fuchsia and red.

Meanwhile, Road House Blues, a purple-y navy, was painted on models’ nails for Rebecca Taylor to compliment the collection’s dark colors and floral prints.
