Roads these days are unreadable, unexpected traffic can pop up at any point. You need to be prepared for those days when you spend most of the day behind the wheel.

  1. Jump Leads

Jump leads, or jumper cables, are essential to keep in your car always. Batteries can die at any point, and when they do you need to be prepared to jump it back to life!  Alternatively, you can use an emergency battery booster if you can’t rely on someone to offer you help.

  1. Safety Kit

This should include essentials such as a torch, food, water, first aid kit, maps and a multi-tool. If you get stuck somewhere hours from help, these things could be your saving grace. After all its better to be safe than sorry.

  1. Things for Ice/Snow

This means you need an ice scraper, anti-freeze and maybe even a compact shovel to shift the snow. Sometimes a cars heating system is not enough to clear ice from the windscreen, so these essentials are definitely going help. Also, keep a blanket or warm top handy in case you get stuck somewhere in the cold.

  1. Battery Powered Tyre pump

We spoke to Dan from Trade Cars and Commercials, who said that this little machine could be the handiest thing in your car for emergencies. He said “flat tyres can happen easily and unexpectedly and having this gadget means you can pump up your tyre no matter where you are”.

  1. Spare change

Changes in journeys may lead to unexpected tolls or trips to the drive through. Either way, it’s a good idea to have a little cash with you at all times, just in case.

  1. Things for the kids

If you have children, it could be useful to have toys in the car for long journeys. Also, things like wet wipes, snacks and tissues will almost certainly be used with young children.

Remember, you never know what situations can happen, so it’s better to be prepared for all of them!
