5 Insanely Convincing Reasons You Should Learn to Scuba Dive

Are you thinking about learning to scuba dive, but are not sure if it’s right for you? Check out these convincing reasons you should learn to scuba dive.

Could you imagine swimming face-to-face with sea life? Or, exploring underwater caves and sunken mysteries? What about a gig you could take almost anywhere, extended vacation by sharing your skills?

These are among the few joys why you should learn to scuba dive.

These Reasons to Learn to Scuba Dive Will Have You Going Overboard

Scuba diving has seemed like a super cool activity if you love aquatic life and being close to bodies of water. It turns out a scuba certification only takes a few days and $200-$300-ish dollars!

The PADI open water cert is common as it gives you enough experience to dive most shallow-ish places. Scuba pros would likely go for advanced ones like SSI or BSAC letting them dive deeper.

Now you know how it’s done… what about the why?

1. It’s an Inexpensive Hobby

Scuba diving is a relatively inexpensive hobby outside the primary items like:

  • Mask, fins, and (optional) snorkel
  • Dive computer and BCD
  • Regulator and tank
  • Wetsuits

Wetsuits for women are about the same price as those for men. The pricing is similar for most other items depending on your body type. Once you have this gear, you’re free to dive wherever you’re allowed and certified!

There are sub-hobbies with scuba diving, too, like:

  • Underwater photography
  • Underwater geocaching
  • Sport Diving

2. It’s an Adventure

Did you know 80% of the ocean is unexplored? Getting your diving certification is like being on the frontier of adventurous travel. Almost every dive would take you to a new location. The adventure would share wonderful, sometimes unexplainable things!

Plus, imagine the Instagram photos you’d share!

3. It’s a Business Opportunity

There are a few ways you could use scuba diving in tandem with traveling:

  1. Classes
  2. Gig work
  3. Treasure hunting

Scuba instructors need:

  • 6-month cert holder
  • CPR training
  • 100 dives
  • IDC course

Those with the certs could start a side business like snorkeling tours for those on a cruise. Or, providing diving instructions to interested students. You could work with businesses doing aquatic gig work, too!

People aren’t always careful about traveling with jewelry, either. You could turn your scuba diving into a treasure hunt, finding items later re-sold.

4. It’s a Life Saver

Experienced scuba divers ultimately rescued the Thai football team from the cave. There are many instances of scuba divers saving someone’s life. Scuba divers have saved the lives of aquatic life, too!

5. It’s a Peaceful Activity

Life and work get stressful without many options to relax outside of our normal routines. Scuba, in a way, is the ultimate get-away from these stressors (including people).

Solo diving is just you and the aquatic world. There’s no one else bugging you except inquisitive marine life. Regulating your breathing and the zero-g sensation would be an incredibly relaxing experience.

Take the Plunge and Learn to Scuba Dive

If you’re looking for all the pretty things, then learn to scuba dive. You’ll get to explore a world like no other in your travels. Scuba diving is a rewarding skill and hobby with little bonuses along the way!

Get a cert and bring that along with your next adventure. Don’t know where to go next? Check out the travel section for more ideas!
