Different types of memory foam mattresses

If it’s time for a new mattress but you’re not sure which mattress to buy, you can check out different memory foam mattresses. Memory foam mattresses are becoming popular with most people because they provide adequate comfort and support. Unlike the traditional innerspring mattresses that have coils for support, memory foams consist of many layers of foam. Innerspring mattresses also sag after some time which exerts a lot of pressure on your body and leaves you feeling uncomfortable. Memory foam contours your body and provides a cushy comfortable feel for a relaxed night. It’s also more durable providing you with support for a longer period of time.

Memory foam mattresses are good for people with back problems, have sleep apnea, or are woken up by their partner in the middle of the night when they leave the bed. You will get memory foam mattresses that allow you to sink in or bounce on top, and others that make you feel hot or cool. For you to get quality night sleep there are some things you need to consider:

1. The indentation load deflection or ILD

Ideally, a mattress can have an ILD range of between 6-40 and most memory foam mattresses in the market today have an ILD of between 10-16. To get a quality memory foam mattress that will support your weight and reduce pressure on your body, you should go for a mattress with multiple layers of different inches to enhance the mattress comfort.

2. Origin of manufacturing

Many mattress companies import the mattress components from countries like China and then assemble them in Canada or the U.S. once assembled they deceive consumers that the mattresses are made in the U.S or Canada. These mattresses aren’t even tested to know what kinds of chemicals have been used during manufacturing. There could be harmful chemicals and odors that have been masked with industrial perfume.

3. Foam density

Foam density has more to do with durability than the feel of the mattress. A 5lb memory foam mattress will last longer that one with 3lb. also, make sure that all the different layers in the memory foam mattress don’t have weak density.

4. Check the mmHg

This is basically the units used to measure the comfort of mattresses. The recommended standard unit should be 32mmHg or lower is the best to relieve pressure on your pressure points reducing the times you toss and turn in your bed. While it’s difficult to have a low mmHg with a higher density, it can help to improve blood circulation in your body.

Now that you know what point to consider when you go out to buy a memory foam mattress, let’s see the different types of these mattresses there are.

Traditional memory foam

These mattresses have been in existence for a long time now and are designed to contour with your body. This reduces the pressure on your various pressure points and joints and increases blood circulation. If you sleep on your side your shoulders and hips will be well supported. A memory foam mattress will absorb any motion on the bed and if your partner turns a lot at night you won’t be disturbed. The foam is anti-microbial which helps to promote a healthier sleeping environment by reducing dust mites and other bugs that can cause you to have allergies. This foam is more durable than spring mattresses because of the material and the way it’s constructed.

Gel memory foam

For gel mattresses, a gel is added to memory foam which gives it a different feel than other memory foam. These mattresses are more effective in regulating your body temperature and absorbing your body heat making your nights much cooler. The gel will also stop motion transfer and will provide relief to your pressure points. The gel foam has anti-microbial which protects you from getting allergies. This is one of the best memory foams in the market that provides your body with support.

Tulo mattress  have a gel foam layer that makes it firmer and good for people with poor sleeping posture. This mattress has great edge support and the four layers of foam make it firmer and better in supporting your weight. It also gives you a bouncy and cushiony feel while other memory foams contour and hug your body. If you sleep on your back, stomach, or side, Tulo memory foam mattresses will keep you comfortable throughout the night.

Air cool memory foam

Most memory foam mattresses retain a lot of heat but air foam is designed in a way that it reacts to your body temperature by becoming softer channeling out the heat. The open cell structure in these mattresses makes it easier for air to circulate reducing the heat in your bed which helps you to sleep better. Some of the mattress brands have adjustable firmness that you can adjust separately on both sides. Air cool memory foam is much softer than the traditional memory foam providing better comfort.

Plant-based memory foam

These memory foams are made of plant materials. When manufacturing plant based foam, most of the petroleum used to produce traditional memory foam is replaced with plant-based oils. This makes the foam eco-friendly, makes it more breathable, and it’s free of most of the chemicals found in memory foams. During manufacturing, plant-based products can release volatile organic compounds because of the binding agents used, but it’s less than what you get in other memory foams. This means that you experience less pronounced off-gassing.

Are you now ready to get your memory foam mattress?

Whether you didn’t know or you knew a bit, hopefully now you are well informed on what to look for when you go out to buy a memory foam mattress. Finding the right memory foam doesn’t mean you pick the first mattress you see, it’s much more than that. You owe it to yourself and your body to carefully consider all the above points because when you buy a mattress you’re investing in your health.
