Digital Marketing In Modern Business, And Why It’s So Important

Riding The Algorithm Wave

What’s an algorithm? Well, it’s a sort of mathematical formula that can be used to save time and effort. With the internet, there is almost an endless amount of data through which a search engine must parse.

As of September 7, 2020, Google had indexed over 100,000,000 gigabytes of data—and that’s just how much of the web can be indexed by Google. It doesn’t include the “dark web”, which isn’t indexed. Now a gigabyte is over a thousand megabytes, over a thousand kilobytes are in a megabyte, and over a thousand “bytes” are in a kilobyte. A “byte” is like a letter, number or space.

So a few megabytes cover the entirety of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Many hundreds of copies of that volume of data exist in one gigabyte. That shows just how big the web is. There’s no way to parse that data without some sort of algorithm. As a business, your online information represents a few hundred megabytes among billions that need to be visible.

If you’re going to get noticed, you need to make it so your business is more visible to algorithms than others—at minimum, you need to be as visible as peers or competitors. This is, at core, why digital marketing optimization through professionals is so important: basic visibility amongst the endless online noise. We’ll cover a few more reasons in this writing.

The Potential For “Virality”

A “unicorn” business in the tech community is one that goes from “zero” to “billionaire” status exceptionally quickly—such as Facebook, or Twitter. In Silicon valley, everybody is always looking for the next “unicorn” technology solution. One reason businesses get so big so fast is because of “virality”–that is, what they do, and how they do it, goes viral.

It’s impossible to totally control or predict virality—though indicators exist which can help you get there if you follow them. A lot of professional digital marketing options, such as this group providing digital marketing for medical business, can help your operation go “viral” in an “organic” way that maintains your visibility, and specifies your position ahead of peers.

Beyond viral potential, you do need to increase your online “footprint” so general clientele can both find and serve you. This will include geo-locating, keyword optimization, Social Media Optimization (SMO), and many other concepts which have just transcended the “burgeoning” stage, and are becoming common.

The SEO Component

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This basically means optimizing online content such that it’s exceptionally visible to search engine algorithms. Sentence size, word choice, white space, paragraph size, images, video, infographics, relevancy, HTML tags, and more go into the process of maximizing SEO.

As an example, healthcare SEO for doctors may include words like “check up”, “physical fitness”, “healthcare”, “cancer”, “screenings”, and other like terms. Different keywords will be more or less appropriate for different medical practices. Almost all medical practices using online digital marketing techniques will want to geographically center outreach.

When people conduct a search, they’ll often couple a relevant keyword with their location to find what’s nearby. This is the “go-to” for many people. Since the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and mobile technology were already more than 50% of internet interaction prior COVID-19, this reality has cemented the need for digital marketing acumen in the modern business world.

Retaining Contemporary Visibility

Regardless of the sort of business you are involved in, having a digital presence is as integral today as having a phone number became at the turn of the century from the 1800s to the 1900s.

If you’re without some sort of digitized presence now, you’ll be as obscure in the modern world as an Amish community in Pennsylvania; so it is definitely beneficial to find your balance here.
