Simple Ways to Better Care For Your Teeth

Despite having a great dentist, the friendly and highly experienced Dr. Peter Spennato, I absolutely hate the idea of going to see him of anything other than a check up. In my view there is nothing worse than having someone poking and prodding, or worse still drilling, in my mouth. I don’t like the smell, I don’t like the sounds and laying back with my mouth open, waiting to be explored is not exactly my idea of a good time.
It is exactly for these reasons that I do all that I can to care for my teeth and the truth is that doing so is incredibly simple. If you want to avoid that next trip to the dentist then here are some super simple ways to keep your teeth in good shape.
Brushing
Everyone knows that they need to brush their teeth in order to keep them in good condition but there is an alarming number of people who simply don’t do it, or at least not enough. You should be brushing your teeth twice per day as a minimum, once in the morning and once at night, you should also try to brush them at least once during the day after a meal. When brushing it is important that you brush your teeth in circular motions and don’t brush too hard as this can damage your gums. Regular brushing keeps your teeth clean, bacteria free and will maintain the natural white color.
Flossing and Chewing
Brushing your teeth after each and every meal is not always easy to do so instead you should be looking at trying to floss or chew sugar-free gum after you have eaten. This will ensure that food does not lodge itself in between your teeth as this can result in bacteria, plaque and bad breath, all things which need to be avoided.
Avoiding Foods
You should try your best to avoid eating food which has too much sugar as this can cause your teeth great damage. Sugar attaches itself to your teeth and then when it is removed, it can take th enamel of your teeth with it. There are also some drinks that you should avoid in order to keep your teeth white, red wine and coffee for example are well known to stain teeth and if you must drink them, then ensure that you clean your teeth afterwards to avoid staining them.
Regular Check Ups
As much as I hate going to the dentist, a regular check up is the best way in which to avoid any grave complications with your teeth. I much prefer to go to my dentist every 6 months for a 5 minute check up than to avoid them altogether and then have to go for major invasive surgery because I had a cavity that wan’t spotted in time. Once every six months you should be making an appointment with your dentist in order to avoid big problems.
