Things to Consider Before Renting a Car Abroad

What better way to enjoy a new country than to rent a car in order to be able to explore more of the destination which you have chosen? I have been fortunate enough to travel throughout the world and I have driven in over 35 different countries from South Africa to Switzerland, I even used a car rental in Israel during my time in the Middle East.
There are many things which should be considered before deciding on renting a car abroad and today we are going to discuss the kind of things which you should be thinking about before renting.
Car Selection
When it comes down to which car you decide upon, there will be many contributory factors to this decision. The first thing to think about is price and what budget you are trying to stick to, the better the car, the higher the price will be. The next thing to think about is what kind of driving you are going to be doing, if you are going to Florida for example and looking to shuttle between theme parks, then you are going to be on well built roads and not traveling very far which will not require a car with any particular strengths or durability. If however, you are renting a car in India or Mexico, you should expect poor road construction and heavy traffic which may require a car that is built to last.
Company
Depending on what company you use should not only come down to the price which they are charging for a rental but also based on the terms and conditions which they are offering. There are man variables when it comes to car rental and some companies will have limits on mileage or gas usage and they will all have different prices for extras such as wi-fi and GPS. When you are deciding on which is the best company for you to use, your decision should be based on a combination of these factors.
Fine Print
When it comes to renting a car, you should always ensure that you review the fine print of the car rental agreement. For example, many companies will take a deposit from your credit card in case an accident should take place, it is important that you understand how much they will take and when it will be returned to you. Equally, the insurance itself should be analyzed in detail to ensure that you are fully covered for a wide range of instances which could take place. Before you sign any car rental agreement, you must ensure that you know exactly how much you are paying and how well you are covered.
Driving Abroad
Finally, you must make sure that you are comfortable with driving abroad, it is not for everyone and you must be confident that you are a safe enough driver to adapt to a different way of driving. Be sure to do a bit of research online before you travel to find out what driving in your destination country is like, so that you are well prepared to deal with it.
