What a Financial Advisor Can Do For Your Family

This time last year I bumped into an old family friend, his name is Patrick Dwyer financial advisor extraordinaire and he was telling me about the benefits which my family could receive if we were to use a financial advisor. In the past I had always considered financial advisors to be the type of people who were used by big companies and corporations or individuals who had plenty of money behind them and were looking to invest in stocks and shares. Personally speaking my family did not have any money worries per se, but we did have to tighten our belts a little bit in order to get by.

Despite the fact that I considered a financial advisor an unnecessary expense, I decided to trust our friend and asked a financial advisor for a meeting. One year on, I have changed my tune and would recommend an advisor to anyone, and here is what they can do for you.

Bills Reduction

The first thing that my financial advisor did for me was to reduce my monthly bills by almost $200, they did this in the first 2 weeks and had already paid for their hourly fee ten-fold. The way in which  she did this was to find me better deals on things like my broadband, my energy and my home-phone and renegotiated my mortgage. In just a few short weeks my interest on my mortgage was down as well as my monthly payments.

Savings Plan

Sometimes it takes the influence of someone else to push you into doing something that you know is right. Many people hire dietician for example even though they know fine well how to eat healthily and when it came to my savings, the advisor did something similar for me and was pivotal in setting up a savings plan which I could stick to. I never thought that I had enough income to save for anything but here I sit, one year on, with a healthy savings account with over $3000 in it.

Planning For The Future

Until my advisor came along, I had honestly never thought much about paying my young kids through college when the time came or even having a plan for what I would do when I finished working. Now, with a lot of helping and some smart investments, I am on course to be able to put both of my girls through college should they decide to and I also have a 30 year plan for how I will manage when the time comes to stop working.

I cannot recommend a financial advisor enough, they do not judge you at all, they are not there to point the finger at your spending, on the contrary. Any financial advisor worth their salt will simply try their best to put you on a firm financial footing with stable plans for the future.
