Tuscany is one of Italy’s most famous regions when it comes to tourism and from its stunning landscapes, cities filled with classical art and of course, the outstanding cuisine and wine, it is easy to see why.

Just off the coast of Tuscany lies the Tuscan archipelago, a collection of islands which are said to have been formed when the goddess Venus sprinkled jewels in the Mediterranean Sea. One of the islands is Elba and if you want an unforgettable Italian experience then this is where you should go, there are frequent ferries to Elba from the mainland and here is what to do when you’re there.

Capanne Mount

The island is packed with beautiful nature trails which meander through the landscape and the most popular, and most beautiful is Capanne Mount. Those who embark on the tour are treated to an incredible view of the island and from up there you can actually see 3 sides of Elba. If you aren’t feeling too energetic then there is also a cable car available which can take you to the top.

Pomonte Beach

As can be expected with an island like this, the beaches are absolutely glorious and the most popular is Pomonte, a beach which offers fun for all the family. If you are feeling adventurous then why not swim out and see the Elviscot shipwreck which is just a couple of hundred metres from the beach.

Aquarium

This is a great place to go if, especially if you are traveling with children, the aquarium sits on the west side of the island and offers guests a great chance to meet and great their favourite marine life. Close to the aquarium there is also the wildlife museum where you can discover a range of animals which live above the water. Both locations make for a great day out.

Volterraio Fortress

This impressive fortress sits on top of the rugged hills of Elba and is absolutely worth visiting during your time on the island. Not only will you be amazed by the impressive nature of the fortress itself but from the top of the hillside you will get to see some of the finest views and photo opportunities that Elba has to offer.

If you are spending some time in Tuscany then you need to ensure that you have at least a night or two in Elba planned into your itinerary. For more info take look at this infographic.
