Why to avoid the scales even when you’re on a strict diet

It’s never easy to stick to a proper diet when you are battling your own food demons. When you’re stressed or sad, you are naturally going to start eating more. Chocolate and sugary snacks taste good and so release dopamine in your brain. That’s why it’s important to keep up a healthy exercise regime to combat any bad food days. Whilst you’re going through this period, it’s vital that you try to avoid weighing yourself. This can actually do more harm than good to you and your self-esteem. Want to know why? Read on to see!

Goals & Ambitions

When you start off your diet, you are ultimately looking to figure out a way to eat well. You are also going to need to consider an end goal, aka, a weight that you will be happy with. It’s going to take a lot of time for you to get to this weight. That’s why it’s important not to go on the scales as you’re working towards your end goal. If you see that you are not losing as much weight as you want, this can demotivate you, making it more likely that you will cheat on your diet or try to lose weight in an unhealthy manner.

Fluctuating Weight

Whether you are following an exercise and diet plan on your own or you have decided to join Fat Camp From Prestige Bootcamp, another reason why you should not use your scales is that your weight is bound to fluctuate on a daily basis. Eating differently and exercising means that your body is going to go through some changes, to the extent where it may even start building up fat to start with. However, as you progress through your diet you will lose more and more weight. That’s why you should avoid your scales, as it may give you a reading that doesn’t reflect your effort. Try to spread out when you weigh yourself. You do not want to obsessively look at the scale and judge how many pounds you have lost. Instead, try once a month so that you can judge how well you are doing.

Tunnel Vision

As we focus on losing weight, it can also be important to realise that you are also doing it for additional health benefits. This includes being less prone to diseases and improving your mental health. By weighing yourself, you’re solely focusing on the one physical aspect of having a healthy diet and aspect regime. Instead, focus on all of the benefits and use it as a motivator.

A scale does not define you

Honestly, losing weight is difficult enough. The last thing you need is a scale constantly making you feel bad about yourself. Everyone loses weight in their own way. You just need to remind yourself that some people lose weight faster than others. Instead of focusing on numbers, focus on how your body makes you feel. If you look in the mirror and feel like you look like you’ve lost weight, then celebrate. You deserve to feel body-positive instead of just feeling bad about yourself.
