Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 dried ancho chilies, seeded and chopped

Instructions 

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, cook until softened.
  2. Add chicken broth, chocolate, cumin, cinnamon, salt, pepper, and ancho chilies. Bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Transfer mixture to a blender and blend until smooth. Return to pot and simmer for another 15 minutes.
