Main Ingredients
- 2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 ½ cups warm water 110 degrees F
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 units eggs beaten
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 7 cups bread flour
- ¼ cup shortening
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup confectioners' sugar for dusting
- 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, eggs, and evaporated milk. Mix well.
2. Stir in 4 cups of flour and beat until smooth. Add shortening and salt, then mix in remaining flour. Cover and chill for up to 24 hours.
3. Roll out dough ⅛ inch thick. Cut into 2 ½ inch squares. Heat oil in deep fryer to 360 degrees F (180 degrees C).
4. Fry squares in hot oil until they puff up and are golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels.
5. Dust with confectioners' sugar and serve warm.
