Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ham bone with some meat on it
  • 2 cups Split peas rinsed
  • 1 large Onion chopped
  • 2 medium Carrots chopped
  • 2 stalks Celery chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • 8 cups Chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme dried
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper ground
  • 2 tablespoon Olive oil

Instructions 

  1. 1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. 2. Add chopped onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. 3. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. 4. Add ham bone, split peas, chicken broth, thyme, and black pepper. Bring to a boil.
  5. 5. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. 6. Remove ham bone, shred any meat, and return meat to the pot. Discard the bone.
  7. 7. Adjust seasoning if needed and serve hot.
